<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">SYMPATHETIC RESONANCE</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">FALSE FRONT is pleased to present its inaugural project SYMPATHETIC RESONANCE, a site-specific window installation by <span class="Apple-style-span">LISA KIRK</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span">.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">As a follow-up to her extravaganza THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH at PARTICIPANT INC., Kirk presents interpretations of “Sympathetic Resonance”, referencing classic favorites, Volker Schlöndorff's Tin Drum and Marcel Duchamp's Large Glass. In addition Kirk will debut her new film “The Greatest Show on Earth”, at the opening brunch. (June 6th, 2004, 4-8pm)</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span">Kirk is best known for her renegade curatorial projects, specifically YOU (2003) and THE OUTLAW SERIES (2003). Utilizing spaces ranging from her mother's Chelsea apartment to NYC bookstore bathrooms. On May 26, 2004, Kirk staged a confluence of performative tactics at Partiocipant Inc, which further interrogated the phenomenon of exhibition-making, redirecting her focus to the Barnum-esque role of the curator as author of spectacle. Following in a long history of artists' responses to monolithic curatorial enterprises and museum blockbusters, THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH comprised Kirk's [INVALID] of institutional critique gone awry. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">“Sympathetic Resonance”, presents a phenomenon through which certain vocalists can shatter glass by creating a pitch, which operates by disrupting the material's internal integrity. By invoking the specter of shattered windows as an aftermath of the Greatest show on earth, Kirk's approach to art making simultaneously incorporates and challenges contemporary art's resignation to “White Box Aesthetics” in an effort to dismantle and poke fun at institutional elitism with democratic verve.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">FALSE FRONT is a a project designed to reintroduce surprise and wonder into Lower Manhattan. Located in the South Street Seaport, the exhibition space consists of a series of curated windows on Historic Front Street. False Front is as an auxiliary showplace, working with individual artists, curators and galleries to provide a forum for non-commercial, site-specific work and inter-disciplinary collaborations between emerging and established artists of all (and especially non-traditional) mediums, with a preference for those working in many at once.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span">FALSE FRONT is located at 232 Front Street, just north of the Fulton Street Market in the South Street Seaport.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span"> </span></p>
